“The Village Two mountains away”

Lesotho / July 23 - August 1 / 2025

What is life? A moment, moments, valleys and mountains… The book of James says it’s a vapor. A breath, a blink, one chance to capture the beauty. God gives us time as a gift and only we can choose to give ours as a gift to others. The world is full of people who feel forgotten, abandoned and uncared for, when what we were given so freely can easily change the time they will spend in eternity. This past week we hiked to a village that a local told us hasn’t been visited in his lifetime… He was 30.

A grandmother held my hands in silence with tears in her eyes that screamed thank you… Not to a tattooed kid from South Carolina, but to a God that remembered her people. She didn’t see my team, she saw God’s love in us. For us, we weren't sent from an old place, we were called to a new one.

The earth, the dirt, the soil are so pure, it’s wild that the Word says we are born from it, yet we choose to abandon its purity to be entangled by snares we’ve created for ourselves. We choose to give our lives to the dreams of others whose only desire is to be self made when a hike into the mountains, donkeys loaded with 600 pounds of food, making a plan as a we go, sleeping in the floor of a hut made with the stones and dirt we were created out of is where we went to serve the one who created us.

We hiked across the mountains formed by the hand of God, through the rivers chiseled by His finger tips, under the stars tossed in the sky like dust. It’s easy to miss the moment when you feel sent, when in reality we were called. Unreachable? No, hard to reach. Uncared for? No, shielded from our pollution and temptation we choose to love. Forgotten? No, less remembered. Neglected? No, loved by a Father who sent a team of seven men to remind them He sees them, He loves them and He is there among them even in the silence and solitude.

It’s never about the project, it’s the people! I am forever changed by The Kingdom In The Mountains and The Village Two Mountains Away. “You can’t get lost chasing Jesus!”
